The Beauty of Blogging

Do you have a blog of any kind? Or perhaps you just read other people's blogs when something of interest catches your eye. I love blogging, even if it's sporadic, because it's a great way of sharing information and gathering new tips about the writing world. Of course, there are blogs that are pure entertainment in between the useful bits - a certain Mr Malone of May Contain Nuts comes to mind.

Anyway, most blogs have this list down the side called (unsurprisingly) My Blog List. It highlights the other blogs that person follows and shows any updated entries. And it's a great way to find interesting blogs you never knew existed. I've finally come across agent Rachelle Gardner's blog and I'm bringing attention to it here. It is seriously good, full of information, and a must for anyone looking for an agent or publisher. Even if she doesn't look at the type of books you write, you'll still get the inside story on that side of the business, and occasional posts from other authors. Even better, she gives her full submission details on the blog.

Check it out at Rachelle Gardner Literary Agent. The link will take you straight to her post on what she is looking for in her Rants & Ramblings blog.

There are 2 main reasons why I like blogging. One is being able to connect with all sorts of people in the writing world, and I constantly learn from them. The other reason is that it's nice to write something for fun, without any pressure to get it published.

Thanks for the link. I will have a look now.

Thanks for leaving a message, Joanne - 2 good reasons.

I was very remiss in forgetting to follow your blog - so I've corrected that now!

Thanks for the great resource, Rosemary! Wouldn't you know, one of the first posts that grabbed my attention was her most recent on "avoidance tactics". Ironically, reading your post on blog following and then hers has given me the idea that I probably resort to reading blogs of other writers when I'm stumped, and I know I do when I first set down to begin work. Can't say it's all that bad of a procrastination tactic, though, because at least I'm learning something by keeping up with what other writers are doing. I learn something new everyday from the blogs I follow.

Hi Amber, thanks for the message. Yes, I think blog reading is definitely a legitimate 'time-waster'. I too pick up all sorts of information from other writers. The Internet has made the world so much smaller and provides a wonderful way for us all to interact with each other.

You're right about blogging being fun Rosemary, but it's also addictive and, when you haven't written one for a while, the twitching starts. As for Rachelle's blog, I was directed to it a while back but put off by the Christian preference. I know she does other stuff but that menacing word upfront there made me back off. You're right, though, the hints and advice are excellent.

Thanks for the comment, Bill - I can understand your quick retreat!

Great information on Rachelle's site though and, as you say, she handles general fiction too.

Just catching up on my bloggy reading. Thanks for the mention, Mrs G. Oh - and re Rachelle whatsername I too was offput by the slant of the site initially, but there is a lot of good information there. I don't know if you have already mentioned it but Nicola Morgan's blog is excellent for writers.
