Ode to Autumn

I already mentioned in my previous post that I love the final third of the year, especially as we go into autumn. As long as it doesn’t rain too much (a bit of a forlorn hope here in the west coast of Scotland), it’s my favourite season: nights drawing in, fresh colder air, beautiful rich colours, less need to weed gardens, no too-hot sun during the day (although blink and you miss it here), better TV programmes, cosy clothes and comfy boots.

Best of all, I love getting everything organised in the kitchen and study. The other day, I cleaned out several kitchen cupboards to get rid of anything out of date and made a new list ready for all the soups and stews I’m hoping to start making soon – at least I’m full of good intentions! This is also the time of year I go through all the accumulated new recipes to decide which to try and which are for the bin.

As far as writing goes, I’ve already started redrafting finished work and taking note of what still needs completing. Lots of work has been sent on its hopeful way, and I’m trying to organise my notebooks in a more orderly fashion after reading some good tips in writing magazines and on blogs (more good intentions). Next, I need to give some loving attention to my other neglected blogs and schedule the next run of Author Spotlights on this one. Of course, if the autumn weather turns out to be cold, dry and sunny, then I might be out enjoying it.

Does anyone else particularly look forward to this time of year for whatever reason?

Rosemary

One of the best things about autumn is that it's a bit more predictable than summer.

I love it a bit later on when I can start thinking about Christmas. By the way, my kitchen cupboards are on my list too. I have to get them done!

I love autumn. I think it's my favourite time. I love wearing boots and scarves. I love the changing leaves. And I really enjoy closing the curtains in the late afternoon and planning a long cosy evening at home.
You're doing really well with your writing, Rosemary, and with your clearing-out too. I need to do the same! x

I love how much you love autumn! It makes it seem not as gloomy :-) I don't like autumn at all for a variety of grumpy reasons :-)

I do agree about the better TV, but I am looking forward to spring x

Rosemary, I'm so impressed by all you're managing to accomplish. Autumn is my favourite season. I love the colours - so many shades of red and copper and gold.

That's a good one, Myra - and so true!

I love the countdown to Christmas too, Jean!

You obviously feel the very same as me, Joanna!

Oh dear - sorry you're going to have to wait so long, Teresa! I have a couple of friends who feel the same as you do.

Yep - that all sounds good, Cathie!

Thanks, Joan! The colours are gorgeous as we move into September, aren't they.

Hello, my bonnie friend.

Remember when the rage, the latest fad, was to find out your "colors" and your "seasons"? Turns out mine was/is autumn and the colors of fall.

I love the way the green leaves allow their pigmentation to show through, those blazing colors that one would never figure to be too shy to show in summer.

I love the way the sun sets earlier out here in the parched hills of central Texas, cooling the porch both for my butt and for my cats' paws.

I love the fall TV lineup, the onslaught of football, the subliminal urge to visit malls and buy early holiday presents.

Yes, this is my favorite season too.

Hi Rosemary, I love Autumn too, especially because of the colours on the trees. We get lots of apples on the tree in our garden and make crumble. Good luck with all your writing projects and your other blogs! A x

Hi Anita - thanks for your comment. Lucky you, having all those apples - I love crumble!

I think every season has it's plus points. I like autumn because it's the time for jam making.

Hooray for people who love autumn best! I'll join the group too.

I always wait for the day in August which comes every year when suddenly, no matter how hot is, you can smell the coming cooler weather underneath. After that, slowly fall creeps in, and I enjoy every stage.

The late summer harvest, with the low, warm light; the changing colors of the trees and the gold sun; the occasional rains and mists and frosts; the cozy wardrobe in beautiful deep colors. What's not to love?
