Stories for Candis Magazine

The new issue of Writers' News (June 2010) contains a piece about Candis. The family magazine is now accepting unpublished short stories of between 2,300 and 2,500 words. They particularly want stories with clever storylines that keep the reader guessing, twist in the tail, and tightly written whodunnits.

However, there is still room for stories about modern love, families and friendship. No children's, sci-fi, or stories from an animal or ghost viewpoint.

It is a competitive market which uses only 12 stories a year. Payment is £300. Email as an attachment, or in the body of the email to:  Full submission details are on the Candis website and can be printed off.

Good luck,

Many thanks for this helpful information, Rosemary. I think I shall give Candis a try.

Hi Joanna - thanks for the comment, and for following the blog!

Loved your latest story in Writers' Forum. Very powerful.

The people at Candis seem very nice, but do be aware that you may have to wait quite a long time for a reply - four months has been the shortest for me, with 7 or 8 months not uncommon.

They do publish the magazine online about 3 months after print publication, so this may affect any resales - but it also means that you can read the stories they've previously printed to get a flavour of what they want. (First three months mags are for members only online, so don't be put off if it won't let you click on them - just go further down the list!)
