The Ups and Downs of Promotion

I thought some readers of the blog might be interested in an interview I was asked to do by the promotion site Humanmade, now that I have two of my novels featured there.

I had to answer lots of questions about promoting books and I've tried to be as honest as possible. As you know, there's a huge difference between what used to happen in traditional print publication and the need to bring e-books to the readers' attention.

Anyway, you can read my take on it all in the Humanmade interview - they're my opinions and no doubt they'll keep changing as much as publishing does!

I'll go take a look - promotion isn't something I'm good at.

I will read it with interest even though I have nothing to promote... maybe one day!

Thank you, Rosemary. That was a really interesting interview, especially the need to strike the right balance and also the importance of being yourself. I thought that was such a good point.
I don't think I'll ever be especially good at promoting myself. As you say, for most of us in the UK, it doesn't come naturally. However, all your ideas and suggestions all make a lot of sense and come across as highly achievable. x

I don't think we Brits like it much, Patsy!

I'm sure it won't be that long, Wendy!

Thanks, Joanna - hopefully you'll be at the promotion stage very soon!

I think I'd find self promotion hard too - enjoyed reading the interview!

Very interesting interview, Rosemary. Promoting your book is always a very personal thing and it doesn't come easily to all of us to sing our own praises. You seem to have found the right balance. Thank you for posting this. Rx

Many thanks for your kind comment, Rena!

Thanks a lot, Cara - it's a necessary chore, isn't it!
