The Best Part of Writing

No, it's not the sitting down and creating a masterpiece of some kind, or sending work out in hopeful optimism. For me, it's the editing - a book of whatever length completed and the chance to correct any glitches before publication.

So, I was delighted to receive the edits for the next novella in my Aphrodite and Adonis series, The Adonis Touch, which is due to be released by Tirgearr Publishing later in May. Even better, I haven't taken long to go through them this time! Next will be the pleasure of a cover - watch this space.

Hi Rosemary
I love printing out my completed novel and taking a red pen to it! It's amazing what you miss when reading it on screen. As for choosing a book cover....I can dream!! xx

I record each chapter and play it back. That really helps me to find all the rubbish stuff!

Well done on motoring through your novella Rosemary.

That's the beauty of then having an editor to go through it too, Ange! I'm sure that dream will soon be a reality.

That's a good idea, Maria, though I'm not sure I'd have the patience to do it! Even just reading loud sometimes helps.

Well done for getting your edits done, Rosemary. It must be fantastic to receive them and then wait for the cover - what a wonderful moment when you see it for the first time! I'm looking forward to seeing it too. xx

Now you've inspired me to get on with editing Rosemary. I worry that I'll need to change so much and keep putting it off. Now I'll get on with it.

I enjoy editing, the process of[attempting to] make a piece of writing perfect. Reading aloud when something doesn't seem to work really helps. Apparently Anne Tyler reads each novel into a tape recorder, don't think I'd have the patience. One of these days, I'll get round to trying text to speech software-might be interesting. Look forward to seeing the cover Rosemary.

Thank you, Joanna, Susan and Anita - editing is a great part of the writing process and so necessary after getting it all down!
