I
enjoyed taking part in my first Snippet Sunday last week so I’m offering
another this week! I forgot to give the blurb for my dual-timeline novel, The
Highland Lass, so have put it below.
Eilidh
Campbell returns to her Scottish roots from America with one main aim: to
discover the identity of her father. But her mother’s past in Inverclyde is a
mystery with family secrets, a book of Robert Burns’ poems with a hidden letter,
and a photograph link to the Holy Loch at Dunoon when the American Navy were in
residence.
Staying
with her childhood friend, Kirsty, while searching for answers, Eilidh begins
to fall in love with handsome Scot Lewis Grant, but just how free is he?
Together they trace the story of Highland Mary and Robert Burns, with its
echoes to her mother’s story.
In
short alternate chapters, Highland Mary tells her own story from 1785-6. From
Dunoon to Ayrshire and culminating in Greenock, Eilidh finds the past is closer
than she realises.
Snippet
#2 is from the first contemporary chapter when Eilidh is on the transatlantic plane
to Scotland where she meets handsome Scot Lewis Grant:
“You do know we’re in the air now, don’t you?”
Hearing
the amused, rich Scottish tone, Eilidh frowned and opened her eyes. She hadn’t paid
much attention to her travelling companions, apart from a cursory glance to acknowledge
they existed as she’d been too busy worrying about take-off. She glared at the owner
of the voice, indignant at her thoughts being interrupted. For all he knew she
might have been in a deep sleep.
“Yeah,
thanks, I was quite aware of that.”
He
had the cheek to grin. “That’s fine then. I could see you obviously didn’t like
the take-off and I wanted to reassure you.”

Interesting snippet...should be quite the story!
An intriguing first meeting for the two of them!
Thank you, Veronica!
Thanks, Jessica!
Very interesting premise for the story! I can already sense the chemistry between these two. Nicely written, Rosemary! :)
It'll be interesting how they get on. Good snippet, Rosemary. :)
I wonder what her response to that will be? One thing I hate is when people insist on making conversation when all I want is to be left alone.
He sounds quite a caring sort of guy if he's astute enough to realise she's nervous and not just dozing. I like him already. Great snippet and I'm really intrigued by the premise of this story.
How could she possible be angry at a man with a Scottish brogue and a grin? He sounds lovely to me.
Maybe he wants to chat.
"Meet cutes" can happen on planes: son #3 met one of his girlfriends on a plane from California to Toronto. Turned out they lived within a block of each other.
Bwahaha! He has nerve, that's for sure.
Thanks very much, Julie!
Thanks, Siobhan - things can only get better!
It's kind of how she feels at the moment, Botanist!
You're absolutely right, Lyn - very clever, thank you!
He gets even better on further acquaintance, Alexis!
Or get to know her better, Aurora!
Definitely, Ed - and I mention a couple of those kind of incidents later in the book!
And confidence, Karysa - a man sure of himself!
Nice! She'd just as soon he shut up, and he's nice as can be, concerned about her. :-)
Curious first meeting. I'm intrigued to know more.
That's an interesting meet. I'm glad you came back. This story sounds very interesting.
Haha I like her snark!
An interesting first meeting! I like her.
Great first meeting.
What if she doesn't like the flying part, either? It happens. I suspect he's trying to help, but he comes across condescending.
That's it exactly, Teresa, thanks!
Thanks, Karen!
Thank you, Diane - that's kind of you!
Thanks, Amy!
Glad you like her, Elaine!
Thanks, Patsy!
That's just it, Caitlin - she doesn't like flying!
